RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research（BDR）
The center views the life of an individual, from birth to death, as a dynamic process of development, maintenance and failure of complex systems of molecules, cells and organs and aims to elucidate the functions which support all stages of the life cycle. In addition, we apply the findings to regenerative medicine and diagnostic technology and aim to establish life science that contributes to the extension of the healthy lifespan, which is a major concern for Japan’s aging society.
RIKEN Center for Computational Science（R-CCS）
The RIKEN Center for Computational Science (R-CCS) is the leading research center in high performance computing and computational science in Japan, operating the K computer, and developing the post-K computer. Our objectives are to investigate “the Science of (high performance) computing, by computing, and for computing”, and promote the core competence of the research in a concrete fashion as open source software, and to collaborate with many other leadership centers globally.
Compass to Healthy Life Research Complex Program（RCH）
This program it to create a foundation for promoting innovation by having RIKEN serve as the core organization together with Hyogo prefecture, universities and research institutes. It aims to serve as a “compass” to help people lead healthier and more fulfilling lives that will offer accurate guidance for maintaining and promoting health and advancing our understanding of the human body and building a computer-based virtual-self tool that people can use to predict their future health status.
RIKEN Interdisciplinary Theoretical and Mathematical Sciences Program（iTHEMS）
The Interdisciplinary Theoretical and Mathematical Sciences Program (iTHEMS) is an international research program at RIKEN. It facilitates close collaborations among researchers from different disciplines in theoretical, mathematical and computational sciences. The ultimate goal of iTHEMS is to unravel the mystery of the Universe, matter, and life, as well as to solve key problems in modern society through interdisciplinary approaches.
Through developing an international network for brain circulation, conducting interdisciplinary schools and workshops, as well as daily contact, we aim to develop an ideal environment for young researcher to make major breakthroughs
RIKEN Cluster for Pioneering Research（CPR）
To transform Japan into a science and technology superpower, it is necessary to make scientific advances in a variety of fields and develop unique and innovative technologies. At CPR, Chief Scientists run their own laboratories where they carry out leading edge fundamental research, while simultaneously promoting cross-sectoral research projects that bring together, in an organic way, researchers throughout the whole of RIKEN, leading to the opening of new areas of science and sowing the seeds of new strategic research projects in Japan.
